Marks
“feder8d”, the feder8d logo, and the “f8” device are trademarks of feder8d. Trademark applications are pending in South Africa, the European Union, and the United States.
What you can do without permission
- Refer to feder8d in articles, blog posts, social posts, and academic work, including using the wordmark in plain text.
- Distribute unmodified copies of the open-source code under AGPL-3.0, keeping our trademark notices intact.
- Build on top of the open-source code for your own use, including commercial use, provided you do not rename your product in a way that implies endorsement.
- Say “powered by feder8d” in your application’s footer or documentation when you actually use feder8d.
What you need permission for
- Using the name “feder8d” in the name of a product, service, company, or domain.
- Using the logo or “f8” device in marketing collateral.
- Using the name to describe a modified fork that you distribute or host as a service.
- Merchandise (T-shirts, stickers, swag) bearing the marks.
For any of the above, email legal@feder8d.com. We grant narrow, written permissions readily for non-competing uses.
What is never permitted
- Using “feder8d” or a confusingly similar name (e.g. “Federate AI”, “feder8”) for a service that competes with feder8d.
- Implying endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation that does not exist.
- Use that is misleading, defamatory, or unlawful.
Forks
You are free to fork the AGPL code. If you distribute or host the fork:
- Rename it (do not call it “feder8d”).
- Make clear it is not the official feder8d project.
- Comply with AGPL Section 13 source-disclosure obligations.
